Antique Violin 4/4 Gragnani, Livorno Master Copy Circa 1880 for sale in San Antonio, FL

1 of 1
This stunning violin is labeled as an Antonius Gragnani, fecit Liburni, 1781. Pictures simply do not do justice to how incredible this violin looks. This violin in good condition and IMHO made around 1880. The violin is amazing with not a single crack anywhere on the body. The condition is incredible for a 130+year old instrument. It is a personal model with a Guarneri type outline. The model is an exacting copy of a Gragnani including the f-holes, c-bouts, arching, scroll, pegbox, etc. The back has been touched up in the past. The precise sound holes and edgework IMHO likely show that region's master artisan craftmanship. The tonewoods used on the back and ribs are beautiful, and exactly what the top makers were searching for. The maple has those wonderful qualities that produce a sweet. powerful, and projecting tone. It needs to be used by a professional musician to be fully appreciated. It sounds very good. This is an absolutely outstanding violin. The strings are German s Silver and a synthetic set would add even more amazing color and overtones to this already fabulous instrument. The setup includes a French bridge, a new ebony tailpiece with two fine tuners, an adjustable Sacconi Tailgut, and a Guarneri style ebony chinrest. The pegs are also new. Length of back is 14-1/4", upper bout 6-71/2", lower bout is 8", and overall is 23-1/4". The mostly original gold-brown oil varnish is in extremely condition. Will be packed and shipped professionally for a safe arrival. Feel free to ask any questions about this instrument.
